I have been involved in the study of oceans, estuaries, lakes, rivers, and
streams for over 10 years. A young lifetime before that, I was
tipping boats, testing ice, splashing mud puddles, and otherwise intimating
myself with water in all it's forms and functions. In 1992, I left Illinois
and the Mississippi River to seek clearer waters in the Pacific Northwest.
I attended the University of Washington, receiving a BS in Biological Oceanography
in 1996. In 1997, I moved two buildings east to begin my MS in Biological
Assessment from the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (completed July
2001).
I
have deeply enjoyed my time with the Xerces Society. As Director of Aquatic
Programs, I have the opportunity to work with volunteers and professionals
on aquatic issues that are near and dear to me. Through education and
conservation, we really can improve aquatic conditions for invertebrates
and all other aquatic resource users - including ourselves.
In
my spare time I can be found playing with aquatic invertebrates, traveling,
star gazing, rock hounding, hiking, biking, canoeing, mountaineering,
scuba diving, hunting, fishing, movie-going, playing ultimate frisbee,
and enjoying a game of Yahtzee with my beautiful and loving wife Alejandra.
Have a great day and keep protecting your watersheds and appreciating
the spineless!
