Wings: Spring 2006
In this issue

Introduction: Invertebrates as Inspiration
by Robert Michael Pyle, guest editor. Rather than focusing on a particular taxonomic group, a bioregion, or a conservation topic, this unusual issue explores artistic responses inspired by these themes.

Hidden Splendor by Thomas Eisner. Examination of lepidopteran wing areas under high magnification yields surprising, and inspiring, results.

Restoring a Creek, Restoring Hope by Susan J. Tweit. The author and her husband restore a creek and riparian area on their land, welcoming the many invertebrates that soon appear.

Lost Among the Poppies by Dame Miriam Rothschild. A lighthearted look at beetles feasting and mating amidst poppies.

A Passion for Worms by Robert Michael Pyle. In this fictional story, a graduate student’s long-term fascination with annelids leads him to pursue the “holy grail” of worms.

Notes of a Nearsighted Naturalist by Ann Haymond Zwinger. The author marvels at the butterflies, flies, and other invertebrates she encounters on a summer’s day on Pikes Peak, Colorado.

Poetry by Margarita Engle, Michele Glazer, Pattiann Rogers, and Bill Yake.

Mixed-Media Invertebrates, artwork by Gwynn Popovac.

Appreciation
