Aquatic Invertebrate Conservation Program

Mindy Allen
Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist

Allen received her BS in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College in 1995. Her studies focused on water quality coursework. After college Allen took an internship with the Washington State Department of Ecology, then continued as a volunteer, sorting and identifying numerous macroinvertebrate samples. She also compiled the DOE's macroinvertebrate reference collection, including different instars and color morphs. Allen has sorted, identified, and provided preliminary analysis for watershed groups, state, county and federal macroinvertebrate work. In 1999, Allen constructed a graphic glossary of terms used in aquatic macroinvertebrate identification (click here for sample). This can be purchased form Caddis Press, PO Box 21039, Columbus, Ohio, 43221-0039. Also, a version of the glossary will be in the 4th Edition of Introduction of Aquatic Insect of North America, Merritt and Cummins. Allen attended Northwest Biological Assessment Workgroup meetings and the Taxonomic Workshops on aquatic Coleoptera, Diptera, Crustacea, Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Gastropoda. She is certified by North American Benthological Society for Western Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera.

Since launching her consulting business in 1998, Allen has continued building experience and expertise. For analysis fees and further information contact:
