Using your data in the Oregon stream models

The Western Center for Monitoring and Assessment of Freshwater Ecosystems, Predictive Models can be accessed at:
http://129.123.10.240/WMCPortal/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=2&tabid=27
(note this URL is accurate as of February, 2007)

NOTE: You will need to "Request Username/Password" as soon as possible if you plan to run the models. It may take a few days to get the necessary information.

1) Click "Run the Software"

2) Enter your username and password

3) Select the appropriate model. OR_MWCF (Willamette Valley and Coast Range) and OR_WCCP (rest of Oregon except southeast) are located at the bottom of the dropdown list. "Tab delimited" is the default delimiter, but check to make sure. Click "Continue".

4) Now enter your bug and habitat files. The entire path to the file is necessary, so the easiest thing to do is use the Browse button to select the files. Click "Submit Data".

The magic should now happen, but some common errors can occur.

  • Make sure the sample names are in the same order on both data files.
  • Did you remember to type the word "sample" at the beginning of the bug file?
  • Make sure there are no spaces anywhere in any of your file names.
  • Do you have any sites with habitat informatoin but not bug data or visa versa? (example of error message below)

If the black box did it's trick, however, you'll see the following output. Be sure to save the html and/or text files (html preserves color coding) so you can view them later. The key files are the Site Habitat Test Results (red means the sample site was outside of the parameters of the model), and the O over E scores.

So what does it all mean?
