Nancy Lee Adamson, Xerces Society’s Pollinator Conservation Specialist in the East Region will give a plenary presentation at the conference entitled, Native Plants for Pollinators on July 19th from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm.

Pollinators are vital for our well-being. They are ecological keystones, ensuring pollination of 85% of plants (35% of crops). This program highlights the importance of pollinators (especially native bees), ways to support pollinator populations with native plants, and Farm Bill programs for habitat creation. Providing nectar and pollen through the growing season, protecting or providing nesting sites, and reducing or eliminating pesticide use benefits pollinators and lots of other wildlife. Bee and butterfly gardens are excellent places to experience connections between pollinators, plants, people, and other beneficial insects (predators and parasitoids). The Xerces Society encourages citizen scientists to help monitor threatened bumble bees and provides many resources for teachers http://www.xerces.org/educational-resources/. To learn more about pollinator conservation through planting habitat, minimizing pesticide use, and sharing awareness of native bees, visit www.xerces.org, e-mail Nancy@xerces.org or phone 336-370-3443. Common native bees will be on display throughout the conference in the exhibit area.
