Karl has worked for over 25 years as a finance professional: as Financial Manager for multiple business units at the Intel Corporation, as Controller of a U.S. Senate Campaign, and Finance and Operations Director for Open School, a nonprofit education organization serving disconnected youth. He has worked for Xerces as Finance and Operations Director since December 2014.

Karl earned an undergraduate degree in agricultural economics from the University of California at Davis, as well as master's of management degree from Northwestern University School of Business and Engineering. He has past agricultural experience working with farmers in several states for the Green Giant Division of the Pillsbury Company.

He has a love of the outdoors, wildlife, and science in general. Karl came to Xerces after learning about the organization while visiting a pollinator habitat installation in the Portland area, and loves that he can learn and participate in our science work while helping to run Xerces' administrative functions.
